I was talking to Bill (PhoneBill) McClain, my business partner at UponAI, about how chaotic things have become with information these days.

Everywhere you look, there’s a new headline, a fresh opinion, and half the time, it’s hard to tell what’s actually true.

It’s been on my mind a lot—how easy it is for misinformation to spread and mess with what we think we know. Some people believe it’s only going to get worse. Imagine future generations trying to piece together major events like the pandemic or climate change but being stuck with endless conflicting stories.

Honestly, it’s already tough enough. I remember during the pandemic, I kept coming across contradictory information about masks—one article claimed they were essential, another said they were useless. It was frustrating and confusing.

But, it turns out I’m not alone.

Studies show this is a massive problem:

→ People with extreme political views are more likely to fall for fake news.
→ 78% of Americans either believe or aren’t sure about at least one false claim related to COVID-19 or vaccines.
→Social media is a huge amplifier—one study found over 85% of tweets analyzed were either false or partly false.

It’s everywhere, but there are simple ways to push through the noise:

Fact-check – Always double-check information before sharing. If something seems shocking, pause and confirm it with reliable sources.

Share useful info – When you find something credible or insightful, spread it. Accurate knowledge can build stronger, more informed communities.

Ask questions – Get curious about the source of information. Who made it? What’s their motive? Questioning things helps develop critical thinking.

Clean up your feed – Unfollow accounts that spread misinformation and follow those you trust. Small changes like this can reduce the chaos.

Learn how media works – Media literacy is a powerful tool. People who understand how information is shaped are better at spotting disinformation and verifying facts.

Doing these things not only helps us stay informed but also ensures future generations have a clearer view of our time.

P.S: Big thanks to Roberto Ferraro for illustrating this so brilliantly!🙂
