Nobody will hand you the win…not in business, not at home. You have to fight for it.
I learned this early, sitting around the kitchen table with my family. Board games, card games, even who got the last piece of pie-everything was a competition. We played hard. We talked a little smack. (Okay, sometimes a lot.)
Nobody pulled punches. Nobody let you win because you were the youngest, or because you “needed a boost.”
You had to earn it.
That’s the lesson I carry with me into business every single day.
Whether I’m building AI voice solutions at UponAI rolling out a new feature at StratusDial or working on a tough project with the team at Networking Solutions, Inc. I know competition isn’t something to avoid.
It’s something you practice.
Here’s how I see it:
🔹 Every call is a match. You prepare, you strategize, you show up ready.
🔹 Every customer is a chance to out-deliver expectations.
🔹 Every project is a new round. No resting on yesterday’s win.
Family game night taught me more about business than any class ever could.
You learn to bounce back after a loss. You learn grit. You learn that respect comes from effort-not shortcuts.
Nobody gives you the win. Not your boss, not your team, not your market.
You fight for it. You practice. You EARN it.
What have you learned from competition-at home, at work, or anywhere else?
