We only see each other twice a year. Yet, we are building UponAI side by side.
Jody Gonzales and I both run cloud voice companies. On paper, we are competitors. We could go up against each other for a client or a project. That has not happened yet.
We live eight hours apart. Most days, our work happens over calls or Teams meetings. Sometimes, we catch up in person at a conference or event. But that is rare.
Still, we make it work.
Why? We just click. From the start, we found a strong bond over our shared goal-growing UponAI into something special.
We get things done, but we also find time to laugh. (If you have met us, you know what I mean.) Fun is not an extra. It is part of how we work.
We are both driven to deliver great service and products. That is something we do not compromise on. Our clients deserve our best-every single time.
My dad always said, “If you are not having fun at your job, you need to find a new job!” I still believe that. Work can be hard, but it should not be joyless.
Building a company with someone you see so little could seem impossible. But with the right partner, distance does not matter. Shared vision, trust, and a sense of humor go a long way.
Who else is building something big with a partner you rarely see in person?
How do you make it work?
